Who We Are

In 2008, a small group of volunteers in the Metro DC area came together to raise awareness and help fund Pediatric Chiari Malformation research.  Chiari is a condition that is estimated to affect 1 in 1,000 people, although with increased diagnostic imaging, the number is likely higher.  We are proud to have raised over $150,000 to directly support numerous pediatric Chiari studies.

As technology advances and diagnosis becomes more accurate, the need for quality research is great.  Our focus is on supporting medical research so that parents, patients, and doctors have the information and tools they need to effectively treat those with Chiari.

While the symptoms of Chiari and the level of suffering can very greatly, most people struggle with pain management.  The Chiari Group is dedicated to funding research that will uncover new methods for managing pain and thereby improve the quality of life for those with this condition and others suffering with chronic pain.

In 2015, we reorganized as The Chiari Group.   We are a non-profit, and operate under the 501(c)(3) umbrella of  ACT For Alexandria, a non-profit community foundation.  All donations to The Chiari Group, through ACT, are tax deductible.
